“We Do Not Work Alone”
These words, borrowed from the Japanese ceramic artist Kanjiro Kawai, a leading figure of the Mingei movement, give their title to the 12th edition of Festival ARTONOV.
They express a simple conviction: creation never emerges from isolation. It is born from transmission, memory, shared gestures, and dialogue between people, places, and cultures.
In 2026, as Belgium and Japan celebrate the 160th anniversary of their cultural and diplomatic relations, ARTONOV invites artists and creators from both countries to explore new resonances between heritage and contemporary creation.
From 4 to 23 October 2026, musicians, performers, and artists will inhabit some of Brussels’ most remarkable architectural landmarks for a multidisciplinary programme dedicated to encounter, discovery, and wonder.
The 2026 edition will also be anchored by ‘Les Dieux de la Maison’, a rare exhibition presented outside Japan for the very first time and on view throughout the festival at Lab ARTONOV. Visitors will encounter folk Buddhist sculptures from the Tōhoku region, conceived as protective presences in everyday life, alongside boro textiles bearing the traces of care, repair, and memory. An invitation to perceive the sacred not in the exceptional, but in what quietly accompanies us every day.
The full program will be released on the 24th of August 2026.
