Manjiro Tatsumi is a master Shite-kata (lead actor) Noh performer of the Hosho School, collectively designated as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property by the Japanese government since 2001. A former disciple of the 18th Grand Master, Hideo Hosho, and a graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts, Tatsumi has performed extensively worldwide. His international career features landmark performances at the UN Plaza in New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and in front of the Sphinx in Egypt. Known for both classical mastery and the creation of innovative new Noh plays, he is the recipient of the 2005 Osaka Cultural Festival Prize and directs the Shippou-kai and Manjiro no Kai associations.
