Thérèse Malengreau
Imagination, coherence and originality characterise the concert programs and recordings of the Belgian pianist Thérèse Malengreau, a regular guest as a recitalist and chamber music player at cycles and festivals of classical and contemporary music all over Europe. Her repertory ranges from Bach to contemporary works, with a predilection for music from the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and for the discovery and first performance of many scores from the past and the present. The connections between music, the visual arts and literature lie at the heart of her research and her performing career, often realised in close collaboration with exhibition organisers and as part of international interdisciplinary projects. Her CD-books in this field — Parade clowns et bouffons, Belgium musical visions released by Miroirs — complement a discography much appreciated by the international press, including monographic albums of world premieres and little-known works — Delage, Vellones, Simonis, Riotte, Apostel, Weihnachtsbaum-Liszt-Bartók-Crumb — for the labels Cypres, BIS, Naxos Grand Piano and Etcetera). Born into an artistic family, Thérèse Malengreau won several First Prizes and advanced diplomas from the Royal Music Conservatory of Brussels, is a laureate of the Fondation de la Vocation and was awarded the Fuga trophy of the Sabam, the Union of Belgian Composers. She also holds a master’s degree in romance philology from the Free University of Brussels. This training forms the basis of her research and teaching activities in the fields of musical analysis and musical and comparative æsthetics.
