Toshitaka Fuke
Toshitaka Fuke is a Buddhist priest and the Administrator of Mii-dera Temple, where he oversees temple operations. In 2020, he revived the historic «Mii-dera Tea,» hand-crafting it from ancient tea trees growing wild within the temple grounds. Dedicated to allowing people to «experience Buddhism through alternative senses,» Fuke curates immersive spaces—including utilizing the National Treasure Kon-do (Main Hall)—and serves custom-selected teas tailored to the season and theme. As a key member of the «Omi ARS» cultural project, he dynamically reinterprets Japanese traditions for the modern era. Walking the line between the ancient and modern, East and West, and the sacred and secular, Fuke embodies the spirit of a contemporary «Kabuki-mono» (a creative rule-breaker) who revitalizes culture with playful ingenuity.
