Lukas Ligeti will invite several colleagues for a concert of free-improvised music. All of the musicians involved are deeply dedicated to the art of improvisation and have concertized internationally as free improvisers.
To improvise means to make up music on the spot; free improvisation implies that the music you will hear was neither rehearsed nor discussed prior to the performance. To the uninitiated, it might seem like such a process will lead to outcomes that could be considered random, but that is not the case at all. Experienced free improvisors have put much thought into this process and art form, and have invested much effort in the development of their personal vocabulary on their instrument. What you will hear, therefore, is a conversation, a musical discussion between artists with their individual styles and modes of expression who enter into an exchange that can question and explore even the most fundamental aspects and principles of music as such, both sonically and socially. You will hear musicians thinking out loud, finding commonalities and differences, and constructing music through collaboration and surprise.
