TRANSE(S)

Rhythm as an Act of Freedom

With TRANSE(S), choreographer Isabella Soupart and music dramaturg Guy Vandromme bring together artists from Kinshasa and the European contemporary scene on the same stage, in a creation at the crossroads of concert, dance and performance. From early music to John Cage’s experiments, from the viola da gamba to blues and Congolese ndombolo, musical heritages enter into dialogue and are transformed through bodies and voices. The choreography emerges from simple gestures, walking, repetition, impulse, vibration, which gradually unfold and become more complex, giving rise to collective states where rhythm becomes the driving force of trance. Like the blues, oscillating between melancholy and vital energy, TRANSE(S) explores the body as a place of memory, resilience and freedom, in a sensory experience where music and movement become one.
